Dr. Shannon Recognized for Physician Excellence

Bar Harbor, ME – October 16, 2019 – The Maine Primary Care Association (MPCA), a membership organization representing the collective voices of Maine’s Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), announced the winners of its 2019 Clinical and Administrative Excellence Awards during a luncheon at the organization’s annual conference.

Before a crowd of peers from health centers across the state, colleagues from Health Access Network (HAN) and his family members, Dr. S. John “Doc” Shannon, DO, was recognized as the recipient of the Carol Eckert, MD Memorial Award, given in honor of physician excellence.

The award represents the best of primary care medicine for the underserved, and is given to a physician who exemplifies high standards of quality care, adopts innovations, promotes greater access, and demonstrates leadership to advance primary care for all.

HAN’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Katie Adams, MD, was on-hand to present the physician excellence award and described “Doc” as a compassionate and dedicated physician who has cared for HAN’s patients for more than two decades, and who has been an unwavering presence in our community since his arrival in 1998.

In his remarks, Dr. Shannon recognized his clinical team for their support, thanked his family for their sacrifices in supporting the oath he took as a medical provider, and expressed how humbled he was to be chosen for the award knowing there are so many deserving family physicians in Maine.

Making a difference in the lives of our patients and our community.

Providing compassionate, high quality healthcare services for all.
